The Grass is Green Where It is Watered - Neil Barringham

"The grass is greener on the other side" has always been one of these concepts that I find so interesting. The idea of always thinking that someone else has it better. The reality of this is that the grass is green where it is watered and taken care of. That is really all it takes! If you feel that someone else has “greener grass” maybe it is time to ask, “Is it really greener?” If you feel that it is, the next question might be, “What are they doing to achieve having it that green and am I willing to do that?” And most importantly, “Do I actually care?”
My next-door neighbor literally has the most immaculate lawn. His grass is a thick dark green. Not a single weed at any given point. This is the lawn you see in advertisements. The thing about it is, my neighbor is always working on his lawn. He is weeding, planting, seeding, spreading mulch, trimming and cutting all day and all night. When we leave our house for any reason on the weekend, and during the week in the late afternoon from the early start of spring until there is snow on the ground, there he is doing something to his lawn. He is really helpful and answers any questions I may have about my lawn, but at the end of the day, I just don’t care enough to do the work that is needed to have my lawn look like his. It is not something that is important to me. My grass doesn’t have to be that green. I actually quite like the dandelions (I really do like them) and the moss patches and the ground bees. That is what my lawn looks like. I don’t want to spend the time and energy to make it something else.
This idea used as a metaphor can be applied to many things. Often when we long to be like others, it might be beneficial to just stop and ask the questions: Is it as good as I think it is? Is it something I actually want? And am I doing/ willing to do the work or just wishing for the outcome?
If you are stuck thinking the grass is always greener somewhere else, let me help.
